I will be contributing by translating strings and paragraphs from different projects, whether they belong to WordPress itself, plugins, or themes. In other words, I chose to join the Polyglots team, which focuses on translation and localization work within the WordPress ecosystem.
The selection process was not too difficult because we had already been introduced to some translation-related topics in a previous meeting. That initial explanation helped me understand what each area involved, so I decided to focus on string translation. I liked this option because it combines attention to detail with language skills, and it felt like a good fit for me.
However, the real challenge came when I tried to start contributing on my own. There was a large amount of information, guides, and documentation available, which made it quite confusing at first to understand the exact steps I needed to follow. I wasn’t sure where to begin or how the workflow was organized, so it took me some time to get oriented.
Because of this, I decided to ask for help from my mentor and also from my classmates. They guided me through the process step by step until I finally understood how everything worked. Once I had a clearer idea of what to do and how to do it, I started translating strings more confidently and in a more structured way.
Overall, it was a learning experience that required some patience at the beginning, but it became much easier once I understood the system. I will explain in more detail how my first translations went in my next post.
