Introduction

Hello everyone! I’m Mario García, and I will share my final report for the WP Credits course. This report summarizes my contributions to Polyglots, more specifically to the Spanish team and the plugin “Bit Flows: AI Agent Automation & Integrations for Forms, CRM, eCommerce, Google Sheets, and More” throughout the course, the challenges I faced, and the skills I gained. I hope my experience inspires others to contribute to open-source projects!

Contributions and teams

I have been working with WordPress translating strings. I chose Polyglots for my project, so I have been translating from the very beginning. My contributions included several posts talking about what I had been doing daily. I spent most of my time translating an extensive plugin.

Learning Resources

I needed a lot of help when I was starting my project because I didn’t know what to do. Thankfully, with the help of my mentor and tutorials like this https://es.wordpress.org/team/handbook/manuales/chat/ or this https://es.wordpress.org/team/handbook/traducciones/guia/, I was finally able to start contributing to my project. I have also counted on the help of my classmates on Slack.

Challenges and Solutions

Like I mentioned earlier, my major problems were how to start contributing and how to write my daily posts. Once I understood how to do it, everything became easier. I resolved these issues by asking questions and looking through all the available information and manuals.

Key Learnings from the WP Credits Course

I learned how to use WordPress, which I had never used before, how to create my own personal blog, and how to contribute to WordPress. I also learned some things in English while translating that I didn’t know before. I have also learned how to communicate effectively in global, remote teams.

Next steps

Contributing to WordPress has been a very rewarding experience for me. I especially enjoyed being part of a global community where people are supportive and willing to help, and I was surprised by how welcoming it is to beginners. One of the most valuable parts of the experience was seeing my translations and contributions actually published and used.

Moving forward, I would like to continue contributing to WordPress, especially in the Polyglots team, and improve my translation and collaboration skills. I also hope to take on more responsibility over time and possibly help guide new contributors who are just starting out. I would be happy to connect with others who are involved in open-source projects and continue learning from their experiences.
